Amiri’s Dream, Or the Blue Future(s) of Negro Music brings to Newark Express a multi-media presentation celebrating the impact and continuing legacy of Amiri Baraka’s iconic book Blues People. A foundational study on the historical role of Black Music in American life, Blues People has been recognized as one of the most profound statements about African America culture of the twentieth century.
Amiri’s Dream revisits some of the key points raised in Baraka’s book through narration, song, and visual culture. It tells the story of Blues People’s original impact and as a lens into the musical future it predicted.
